Reimagining DAM: Insights from the Fotoware Conference

From March 17 to 19, 2026, we attended Fotoware’s Reimagining DAM event in Munich.

Over the course of three days, we had the opportunity to exchange ideas with manufacturers, partners, experts, and customers. The focus was on topics such as content authenticity, governance & compliance, and AI-powered workflows, issues that are currently of great concern to many companies in the areas of media processes, asset lifecycle management, and digital platforms. Particularly exciting was the masterclass led by Reuters and members of the International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC) on the topics of content authenticity and the chain of trust.

DAM is becoming a strategic control center

A modern DAM is no longer just a system for storing images, documents, and videos. It is increasingly evolving into a strategic management platform for assets, metadata, content authenticity, and governance. Today, a DAM serves as a central hub for the entire content lifecycle, from creation and management to distribution.

Why is this relevant for businesses?

Many organizations still work with scattered content silos: marketing servers, cloud storage, local repositories, or CMS uploads.

The result: duplicate files, unclear versions, and missing rights information.

A modern DAM helps structure these processes and deliver content in a controlled manner across systems, for example through automated delivery processes or content supply chains. With DAMlivery, we are perfectly positioned for our customers’ DAM future.

Content authenticity is becoming mandatory

With the increasing prevalence of manipulated images and deepfakes, the question of content authenticity is becoming increasingly important. Media companies, government agencies, and law enforcement, in particular, need to be able to determine:

  • where an image was created
  • what edits were made
  • whether the content has been manipulated

This is where standards such as:

  • International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC)
  • Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA)

come into play. They enable a continuous chain of trust that documents the changes an image has undergone from creation to publication.

Why is this relevant for businesses?

It’s not just media companies or law enforcement that benefit from this. Brands, too, increasingly need to be able to ensure:

  • that their content is authentic
  • that image rights and
  • provenance remain traceable
  • that published content is trustworthy

With clear processes, guidelines, and the right set of metadata, we use our expertise and DAMlivery to support the authenticity of our clients’ media for every output channel, at all times.

AI Becomes a Team Member at DAM

Another major topic was the role of artificial intelligence in digital asset management. In the future, AI will not only take on simple tasks such as:

  • automatic metadata tagging
  • face recognition
  • image classification

New approaches are already demonstrating how AI agents can support more complex tasks, for example:

  • enriching metadata
  • analyzing content
  • orchestrating workflows
  • providing decision recommendations

A clear approach remains essential: Human in the Loop.

AI supports users, but does not replace them.

Why is this relevant for businesses?

Many organizations struggle with:

  • large content repositories
  • missing metadata
  • manual processes
  • limited time and personnel resources

AI can automate repetitive tasks here and enable employees to focus more on strategic and creative tasks.

Conclusion

Events like Reimagining DAM demonstrate just how rapidly topics related to content, data, and digital platforms are evolving.

The key takeaways from our perspective:

  • DAM is becoming the control center for content, metadata, and automation
  • Standards such as IPTC and C2PA are becoming central to content authenticity
  • AI is evolving from a tool into a workflow partner
  • Governance and compliance continue to grow in importance
The DAM community drives innovation through collaboration

Exchanging ideas with experts and users helps gain new perspectives and share experiences from real-world projects.

Many thanks to Fotoware and everyone involved for the exciting event.
