Migration of the Swiss Paraplegic Group's DAM system: from Cumulus to fylr
The Swiss Paraplegic Group (SPG) is a globally unique service network for people with spinal cord injuries. Its seamless integration of services, from the accident site to medical care, rehabilitation, and lifelong support and counseling, is unique. Around 2,000 professionals and specialists from various fields and disciplines work closely together to fulfill the core mission.
When the manufacturer discontinued support for the Cumulus DAM system that had been in use, a new solution had to be found. The DAM experts at DAM United were commissioned to change the system and optimize digital asset management.

Semi-automated migration with proven solutions from DAM United
After a detailed analysis of the existing system landscape and specific requirements, the DAM consultants recommended migrating to fylr (formerly easydb) from Programmfabrik. fylr has established itself as a modern, efficient, and cost-effective digital asset management (DAM) solution in numerous projects and offers excellent value for money, including an unlimited number of users. In addition, the system guarantees the necessary security when handling personal data and images and can be operated in the existing IT environment (on-premises).
In preparatory workshops, the metadata, folder structures, and permissions were first analyzed and adapted to the extended functionalities of fylr. The overall task was to transfer approximately 350,000 assets from six Cumulus catalogs into a consolidated and future-proof structure. In addition, DAM United developed a sophisticated user group and rights concept as well as interfaces for patient and employee management in order to simplify the consolidation of data and images for users and optimize processes.
The DAMmetadata module is used to simplify metadata maintenance and is also used to ensure consistent and efficient management of digital assets. It enables detailed recording, editing, and enrichment of metadata directly in the system, which significantly improves the findability and usability of media content. Centralized metadata maintenance avoids redundancies and ensures data quality in the long term. The module supports various metadata standards and can be adapted to specific company requirements. The use of DAMmetadata thus contributes significantly to the optimization of media workflows and increased productivity.
The actual migration of the assets was carried out by the DAM experts using their specially developed tool DAMmigrate. With the help of a specially configured converter, the transfer of the data stock was semi-automated and efficient. Precise mapping of the information fields ensured a secure, fast, and resource-efficient migration.
The system change from Canto Cumulus to fylr carried out by DAM United has already proven itself in numerous companies. It represents a simple, secure, and cost-effective option for companies that want to benefit from the latest DAM developments and manage their large image collections more effectively.
“The migration of our DAM system from Cumulus to fylr went very well. The system change gave us the opportunity to make our digital asset management more effective in many areas. The experts at DAM United guided us through the entire process and always provided us with open and transparent advice.”
